If we want to keep our minds in good shape, we must exercise. According to Ken Weingardt, a Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine professor, exercise is the only evidence-based activity. Exercise helps to improve cognitive abilities.  Some triggers contribute to developing dementia. Heart disease, high blood pressure,  and stroke may occur if people do not engage in physical activities.

The National Institute on Aging made a recent study about exercising. This study shows that actions prompt muscles to release a protein. This protein stimulates the growth of new cells in the hippocampus. The hippocampus plays a significant role in the consolidation of information. This part of the brain controls memory.

Exercise can be different by nature. We are all different and can choose what is best for us. For example, I do not like lift lifting heavy weights. Yoga and walking in the park or ocean give me energy and balance for the body and mind.

Types of exercise


Somebody else will be able to learn or discover new things after heavy exercising at the gym. What works for one can be dull and confusing for another person.

Martial arts are great for the brain because it relaxes and teaches how to concentrate without tension. Overall Eastern practices for the mind, such as Tai-chi or Taekwondo, calm the mind and help beneficially increase brain activity. You learn how to focus and control your emotions. Your brain is active but, at the same time, balanced.

Mindfulness


Mindfulness is a state of mind when we are aware of our thoughts and feelings. People are conscious and do not react to triggers because they understand what will happen. The increased focus, awareness, and nonjudgmental attitude help to stay in a healthy mental state.

Meditation helps sharpen focus, relax, and expand awareness. People who meditate are disciplined, calm, and thoughtful.

“We have seen higher levels of mindfulness predicting greater job satisfaction, lower levels of fatigue and emotional exhaustion,” said Mahima Saxena, an assistant professor of psychology at Illinois Tech.

When people use the meditation technique, they become calm, concentrated, and aware of their thoughts and feelings.

According to Ken Weingardt, MRI brain scans show the shrinking of the amygdala when people use meditation.  The amygdala is the center of fear in the brain. The prefrontal cortex, responsible for concentration, decision-making,  and attention, grows using meditation practice.

It is not easy to meditate. Meditation requires constant practice. It involves watching thoughts and letting them go. One of my friends told me that he does not want to skip meditation. He saw many things happen to him, leading to success and happiness. When we calm our minds, we can see the world in a different light, as a neutral place.

Our brain works more efficiently because we can differentiate essential things from unnecessary details. Meditation is a standard tool to achieve excellence in thinking and decision-making. Nowadays, people who produce terrific results in the business world are thankful for this life-changing but straightforward method.

People think that multitasking increases productivity. However, the number of accomplished tasks can be more significant, but the quality suffers. We can feel tired after doing a few things at once, especially if we need to concentrate on details.

When we try to perform many tasks simultaneously, we scatter energy and attention. You can not be at the same time in a few places. It means that the mission is accomplished, but the results can be weak and short-lived.

How to feel good at any time? Do you know that exercising takes just a few minutes, and your well-being improves remarkably?  There are countless magazines, ads on TV, scientific research, fitness clubs, and support groups to message you about improving your body, losing weight, calming your mind, and feeling good. This advice is so varied that your head can spin from enormous information.

For well-being, you need to have a natural,  good sleep, eat full of nutrients and food in small portions, and exercise.  You get up from the table, feeling a little hungry. This sense will pass because food in your stomach will signal to the brain that it is here and start to digest.

Mandatory to exercise


Exercise is compulsory for everybody because the more we are busy, the more our bodies need to be flexible and ready for more significant challenges—there are so many concepts on improving yourself. For example,  Katsuzo Nishi offered a program that lets people in bed move as much as possible. There are exercise professionals in clubs who help people choose the best way to stay healthy.

Of course, there is a way to be flexible. Yoga is an ancient complex of exercises that strengthens the body and calms the mind. These exercises are simple for everybody to use. Just starting with little things, such as walking, you can see real progress. Our bodies are created to move, not to sit on coaches. I see many people who choose to be active despite their weight. They walk, roller-skate, swim.

Trampolines are an excellent way to move and be physically active. The trampoline is beneficial because you do not hurt your joints. When you run, the pressure from the road can affect your bones. On the trampoline, the impact is minimal because you continuously bounce back and forth.

Benefits of activities


Activities are in our genes. Our predecessors would disappear from the surface of Earth if they did not use their bodies for their excellence. It is advisable to start with short exercises, like a few minutes, every day. Later is easy to move forward with more significant tasks. Having a circle of friends helps, too, because it can be a shame to skip one day. There is accountability also to yourself and your friends.

Exercise will change your life. You will feel energized and happy because hormones of happiness such as serotonin and endorphins are released when doing physical activities, making us feel good.
