Importance of Spirulina

September 10, 2016 By Nemira 2 Comments

What is Spirulina? The Spirulina is ancient bluish-green algae. Spirulina is the source of vitamins, carotenoids, minerals, proteins, carbohydrates, fats, pigments, and fatty acids&lipids.

Who heard about Spirulina?

I talked with a few of my friends and colleagues about Spirulina. They did not express interest in this nutritional food source. They are in good shape and do not seek any solution to enrich their daily food intake.

My interest in Spirulina

I read a lot. I have plenty of books waiting for me until I finish what I started. I use the computer and phone a lot. It means that my eyes do not have rest during the day. I began searching for nutritional supplements that would be digestible and delicious in vital nutrients. I know that nutrients can help my body and, at the same time, my eyes.

Importance of Spirulina

I started to dig for some more information. Scientists, doctors, and journalists published reviews and books about this miraculous algae.

Spirulina’s costs versus food costs

The price of food at the store is not the price we would like to think is a  real value.

There are many hidden costs for conventional food.

Medical expenses from unhealthy food

Everybody knows how many spoons of sugar are in a glass of soda drinks. Products on the shelves can stay long thanks to added chemicals. Everything looks good till we see our weight climbing and vital signs change. US Surgeon links two-thirds of death to diet. Here medical bills, health insurance, and home care bills show up.

Government helps farmers

The government subsidizes farms through taxes. This contribution encourages farmers to use soil and water. The farmer pays less for water, and the government pays the difference between the actual water and the farmer’s prices. According to Robert Henrikson, in 1989, Farmer’s Home Administration had loaned over 20 billion dollars.

The danger to the environment and resources

Growing agro-business threatens the environment. The population of human beings grows. It requires more and more food. The soil is used and reused without giving back minerals. Countless herds graze. Soil erosion occurs.

According to Robert Henrikson, the author of Earth Food Spirulina, an inch of topsoil takes 200 to 1000 years to get back in shape.

Who will wait so long? People are hungry, and they want to eat now.

How is good cheap food?

The food grown using pesticides and fertilizers is inexpensive compared with organic food. Stores prefer to have sustainable food. There are preservatives used. I guess that in this food are not so many nutrients left. Our bodies can be weaker. Few cups of coffee do not help to restore energy and vitality.

Advantages of Spirulina

According to Robert Henrikson, there are facts in the book Earth Food Spirulina.

  • Spirulina could be cultivated on unusable land.
  • Protein production from Spirulina requires 20 times less land than soybeans and 40 times less area compared to the property used for corn.
  • For the growth of the Spirulina,  the water can be alkaline or salty. The algae do not compete with the water used to grow conventional food.
  • Energy efficiency is higher compared to corn and soybeans.
  • Algae consume carbon and release oxygen. I think that it is a significant point. Nowadays, when climate change is visible, Spirulina can be a savior.
  • Spirulina does not need plenty of places to grow. Spirulina can grow in a hot climate where other crops do not survive.  In countries where food distribution does not work correctly, Spirulina could help sustain thousands of people in developing countries.
  • Spirulina does not do any harm to the environment. Spirulina enriches the air with oxygen.

Conclusion

Spirulina can play an essential role in helping people get rid of malnutrition. It is a cheap source of vital nutrients.

Spirulina generates oxygen and fixes carbon.

To grow Spirulina commercially does not need a Nobel prize winner to find out how to accomplish these tasks. Commercial farms grow Spirulina as healthy food on the six continents.

Spirulina can improve the well-being of people who live in emerging countries.

An update

This text was written a few years ago when bad people did not take over food supplies and did not burn food processing factories. Bugs weren’t on the menu, and nobody thought this craziness would last three years.

Thankfully, Spirulina is around, and we must remember that nutraceutical food is a hundred times better than insects.

Spirulina’s Health Benefits

September 9, 2016 By Nemira 10 Comments

Spirulina is algae that existed billions of years ago. The Aztecs recognized the Spirulina’s health benefits and ate Spirulina before the Spanish conquistadors. People in Africa have consumed the Spirulina for centuries.

Spirulina flourishes in natural alkaline lakes.  Spirulina grows in ponds for human consumption.

Over 25000 species of algae live on the surface of the Earth. Blue-green algae like spirulina are the most primitive. They only divide; they do not sexually produce.

Spirulina’s health benefits

Spirulina is known as a superfood. Algae contain concentrated nutrients that are vital to the human body.

Spirulina as the source of proteins

Spirulina has a high amount of protein compared with natural food, easily digestible. Additionally, Spirulina does not have rigid walls in its cells. It is essential for people who have digestion problems.

Spirulina is a source of vitamins

Spirulina is a source of vitamins. Vitamin A is ten times more concentrated in Spirulina compared with vitamin A found in carrots.

Vitamin A is essential for vision, maintaining mucous membranes, and reducing serum cholesterol. According to Robert Henrikson, author of Earth Food Spirulina, beta-carotene or vitamin A reduces risks for all types of malignant diseases.

Spirulina"s Health Benefits

Vitamin B-12 and B vitamin complexes are in the structure of Spirulina. B vitamins balance the body’s metabolism,  participate in the nervous system, keep the vision in check, participate in enzyme work, maintain the skin healthy, and help create DNR.

Spirulina is a source of iron

Spirulina contains iron. Iron anemia is typical for children, women, and the elderly. The form of metal in Spirulina is easily absorbed. According to Robert Hendrikson, Spirulina is 60% better absorbed than other iron supplements.

The spectrum of Spirulina’s activity

  • The Spirulina normalizes the gut flora
  • Spirulina prevents free radicals.
  • Spirulina stimulates macrophages which fight against malignant cells
  • Spirulina creates an alkaline environment in the body
  • Spirulina strengthens the body’s immune system
  • Spirulina prompts healing processes after accidents and bone breakage.
  • Spirulina enriches the human body with vital nutrients
  • Spirulina is helpful for people with a physical load to bear and who have lost appetite and weight.

Spirulina’s health benefits in Japan

Spirulina is recognized as a nutritional supplement in the United States. Spirulina can not be claimed as the thing which heals people.

Japanese and Mexicans have different approaches. There researched Spirulina’s benefits and healing effects.

Chronic diseases, especially those with a history of malnutrition, disappear or become less annoying after Spirulina’s consumption.

In the book Spirulina what it is…the Health Benefits It Can Give You, the author Joseph Challem lists chronic diseases where Spirulina played a critical role as the promoter of self-healing.

Some of these diseases have been studied in Japan and recorded in prestigious medical journals.

Spirulina’s health benefits when chronic diseases occur

They are diabetes, anemia, liver disease, ulcers, pancreatitis, visual complaints, leukocyte loss prevention, and allergies.

Japanese use Spirulina to relieve symptoms of heavy metal poisoning. Spirulina helps remove toxins from the body.

Spirulina is an excellent source of nutrients.  Spirulina can be quickly grown and serve as food for starving countries. Spirulina’s health benefits allow the body to flourish. Who knows, maybe someday we can grow Spirulina in our backyards.

Why Talk About Nutrition?

May 16, 2015 By Nemira 4 Comments

I guess nobody wonders why we need food. Why talk about nutrition? Not so many people have interested in what is in their tasty sandwich. Most important for us is that it would be delicious, crunchy, and fulfilling. It does not matter that we look for snacks pretty soon and dream about what will be at the dinner today. In different cultures,  people eat at other times. In most advanced countries, people do not have a chance to eat,  to have one hour at least to enjoy and savor what is on their plate.

Our habits and preferences

It is a  good saying: a pattern is not needed. Usually,  we stick to what works for us at this time. We fulfill our stomachs with food that is sometimes good for our taste buds but not our health. Why? Did you try to read what is on the labels? I do not think so because it is not easy to understand. These long descriptions of chemical ingredients are confusing. Usually,  we do not have time to translate these names into our language. Not everybody is a chemist. Do you know what Aspartame, Saccharin, Mycoprotein, or food dyes mean? I looked at what we have in our processed foods; my admiration for Nature’s gifts increased a few times. What do you prefer to eat? What is tasty, but you do not know from where it came? Maybe it is better food, which nourishes our bodies and minds in the same way. If you want to stay informed, I recommend an organization that works in public health’s best interests. You can find it here: www.spinet.org.

Update. The link above does not work. The best way to get information about health is www. mercola.com

Why do we choose food?

Being alert to what we eat can help us stay in good shape long years ahead. I think that you heard that your skin looks better if you eat a lot of fresh vegetables and fruits and sleep well. It is the same with all our organs and body systems. Raw food is full of vitamins, minerals,  and enzymes. They help our immune system stay healthy and protect us from various intruders. The proper diet helps us to keep in shape physically and mentally.

Team of aids

There is so much information about how to be fit, many types of exercises, and advice on losing weight. I wonder why not start from the beginning when our plate is on the table, or we do stop buying fast food.  It is excellent to know what we put in our mouths unless we eat as ancient Romans. They tasted great meals consisting of meat, vegetables,  and fruits. Of course, their empire ended severely, but they knew how to enjoy life. Look what they created and left after themselves. Ancient Greeks left high culture for us. I do not think that they savored Twinkies.

Now, let’s examine why fresh food is so outstanding.

Why talk about nutrition?

Vitamins

They are vital nutrients and organic compounds—many nutrients not made by the body. We obtain them from our diet. Vitamins work with enzymes ensuring that all body activities would be in order and go the right way. If you lack just one vitamin, it can cause many problems. In the same way as enzymes, vitamins are destroyed by high temperatures, cooking, or steaming log time. It is the reason why blending fruits or vegetables is good for us.  All food is divided into small particles. Vital nutrients are here for the lovely smoothie. It is easy to swallow, just keeping a  few seconds in your mouth, letting ferments reach it, and preparing for digestion in the stomach. Especially for people, who do not have so many teeth or feel weak, blending is a simple way to deliver all living nutrients to our bodies.

Enzymes

Enzymes are protein molecules. They are essential for our survival. Enzymes are involved in chemical reactions acting as catalysts. It is a pity they are fragile and lose all their abilities when the temperature reaches more than 118 degrees  Fahrenheit.

Minerals

They are required to build bones, blood, muscles, and healthy nerves. Our bodies are out the balance when we lack minerals. Minerals work best when in chelated form or pico-ionic form, as is ReMag, the best magnesium supplement. It means that they bond to amino acids for more natural assimilation. The cooking breaks these bonds; the blending keeps all minerals intact. Of course, we can use supplements. Anyway, what Nature makes cannot be duplicated in the laboratory. It can be close, but not the same. Why talk about nutrition? It is vitally essential for our bodies what type of food we get. Our well-being depends on it.

Food’s Significance

May 13, 2015 By Nemira 4 Comments

Food's Significance

Food is our savior,  the torture,  and pleasure. Food’s significance is an important thing. Eating for pleasure is one thing; to eat that to keep us energetic and in good shape is another thing. I wonder how many people know from where their food came?  Pleasing our taste buds is relaxing and gives us comfort. It takes a short time, and later we see that we crave this type of food again or are always hungry. Why? Usually,  if we eat processed food, we do not get enough great servants who make our lives easy. They are vitamins, enzymes, minerals, amino acids, and healthy fats.

Eating habits

It is vital to know how we eat and what environment we enjoy the food in. Sometimes we do not have time to eat. Swallowing in big chunks, we fulfill our weak stomach without needed preparation. In our mouth, food comes into contact with saliva and enzymes. Here begins the physical breakdown of food. It is moistened and, thanks to your teeth, can quickly go through the esophagus tube.

How we eat, when we eat, and what kind of people surround us are crucial. Solving problems sitting by the dinner table does not help your digestive system. It is best to finish eating before the sun goes down. Food digests in the stomach for a long time. Going to sleep with the entire stomach, you do not need to wonder why your eyes are smaller in the morning, your face is puffy, and your weight goes up.

The importance of nutrients

When we do not chew our food properly, food is not prepared to go for the next step in the stomach. The digestive system needs to work lengthier and more robustly to digest food. Food passes through the digestive system and splits into small invisible particles. If our eating habits are inadequate, our food lacks needed nutrients, and we do not need to scratch our heads about why health is so problematic.

Nutrients help the immune system to prepare the body to fight against diseases. Food’s significance shows how much we depend on the quality of food.

Blending for Better Health

May 11, 2015 By Nemira 2 Comments

Blending is the easiest way for the body to get all valuable nutrients. Blending for better health is easy and funny. Powerful blenders can mix all types of food.  I forgot my spoon one time. Poor thing. It never will be in the same shape.

Blending for better health

By combining foods, we can provide the body with all the needed enzymes, amino acids, and minerals. Most people eat processed food, which fills up our bodies. Heat cooking methods, such as saturated fats, destroy all vitamins. American diet consists mainly of junk food, full of sugar, salt, fat, and cholesterol.

Blending for Better Health

We provide vital body nutrients when we blend food, such as fruits, nuts, seeds, or whole grains. These small food particles reach our organs faster. They digested more quickly.  The body saves energy, which can be used somewhere else.

Everybody can blend

Blending is good for everybody. Ill people or healthy people can enjoy the benefits of blended food. When you blend food and eat it, assimilation is straightforward and fast. Digestion does not last long hours. Most people do not have time when to eat or relax or take good care of their stomachs. If we ignore what we eat, the combination of food can not work for our profit. For example, eating fruits after dinner gives us gas and a feeling of heaviness. The fruit mixes with pieces of food. This process can produce gas.

Profit from blending

Food, prepared correctly, gives us the energy and nutrients needed for our journey on this Earth. We can blend anything, but combining food rich in vitamins and minerals is most profitable for the body. These nutrients are vital for our immune system. Blending for better health allows us to feel well.

If the immune system is weak, we can catch faster all types of diseases. For example, vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant. When we cook our food, vitamin C disappears thanks to the high temperature. It happens with all vitamins. We can find just traces of these valuable things.

When we blend, vitamins are not destroyed.  Minerals and enzymes are left in the blended food too.  By consuming mixed food, we provide the best protection and support for our bodies right away. Combining for better health allows us to be in good shape as long as possible.

Can We Do Without Sugar?

March 30, 2015 By Nemira 4 Comments

Can we do without sugar? I like sweets. I do not care for candies, but chocolate is my favorite thing. I heard that it is an addictive habit in the same way as drinking. I hope the consequences are different from consuming 100 grams per day of chocolate. I went through a few books and found that this pleasure can cost more during my life compared with happiness eating it.

What is better, chocolate, candies, or soda drinks?

It is the right product if the chocolate contains more than 75% cacao. Cacao has antioxidants, which protect from stress and power the immune system. However, chocolate with plenty of sugar is not real chocolate anymore.

Candies are full of sugar. The same drinks as Coca-Cola Classic and  Arizona Iced Tea contain 39 and 59 grams of sugar. What do we get from sugar? For a while, it gives us energy. However, sugar stimulates the growth of insulin. After consuming too much, sugar levels in the blood need to be regulated. Insulin performs this function. After years of too much insulin, cells give up. As Carolyn Dean, MD, ND, writes: sugar cannot get into cells where it is needed to create energy, and it becomes elevated in the blood, which damages the eyes, kidneys, and heart as adult-onset diabetes.

How risky are refined dietary sugars?

Sugar is absent from vitamins and minerals. The scarcity of nutrients causes the terrible metabolism of cholesterol and fatty acids. Dietary sugars feed fungi and cancer cells. Not too much fun, yes? One more thing. Helke Ferrie wrote that the refining process of sugar removes 93 percent of chromium, 89 percent of manganese, 98 percent of cobalt, 83 percent of copper, 98 percent of zinc, and 98 percent of magnesium, all essential to life.

More interesting facts about sugar

A lady, her name is Nancy Appleton, had battles with sugar addiction. She has a website where 136 reasons are listed why it is better to avoid sugar. We know that sugar can cause tooth decay, which sugar causes premature aging. But news about losing memory when eating too many sweets does not sound enjoyable and exciting to me. How about you? What are your thoughts about this topic?

According to Gabriel Cousens, M.D., sugar consumption per person a year is 125 pounds. It is a lot because it leads to the effect of low blood sugar, as in the medical world, it is called hypoglycemia.

I want to wish to break a cycle where eating a lot of sweets feels so good, but later on, the energy disappears somewhere. Sooner or later,  an option to have the piece of chocolate looks good. Some symptoms include poor concentration, feeling exhausted or angry, and sadness without reason taking over pleasure after eating delicious cake.

Can we do without sugar?

Gabriel Cousens, an author of  Conscious Eating, offers this solution.

How to break the sweet mind-bind cycle?

  • Eat sprouted grain, seeds, nuts, seed sauces, sea vegetables, vegetables, or fruits at each meal.
  • Eat three regular meals at constant times.
  • Stop eating refined foods, sweets, junk, fast foods( such as anything with white sugar), chocolate, and pastries.
  • Avoid stimulants and other drugs, such as coffee and alcohol.
  • Lead a balanced life.
  • Let go of life in the last line

Eluding sweets

Overall, when people decide to finish with one lifestyle and start new, in this case, avoiding sweets, at first,  they feel weaker before becoming more vigorous. It is the same as withdrawal symptoms from alcohol. Our cells have memory. When the body is adjusting and changing from one unhealthy habit to a healthy one, this short process can make us uncomfortable for a while.

It takes some time to adjust to new habits. However, after this, we will be in lousy shape eating junk food because our bodies start to recover and have a healthy metabolism.

Can we do without sugar?

Carolyn Dean, M.D., N.D., offers an excellent solution for showing children the harm of sweets. She offers to make a deal with them.  The whole week is to be without sugar, except the weekend. Children can enjoy all desserts all day long. After this weekend, children can eat all the sweets. It will be an unpleasant feeling for them that something is wrong. It happens when the big load of desserts after a healthy eating style makes them feel tired and uncomfortable.

Like everything in life, changing our habits takes persistence and willingness to achieve our desired goals. What do you think?  It is worth regularly checking how we do before and after losing bad habits. Can we do without sugar? Of course, we can if we choose well-being over bad habits.
